Boycott Your Bed: A Small Sacrifice to Make a Lasting Difference

September 25, 2026By C8 ConsultingInsights

Corporate fundraising initiatives often ask us to step outside our comfort zones. Action for Children’s annual sleepout, Boycott Your Bed, asks us to do that quite literally. On Friday 2nd October, hundreds of people from businesses across the UK will swap the comfort of their beds for sleeping bags, raising vital funds for vulnerable children and young people who do not always have the safety and stability many of us take for granted.

Giving up your bed for one night may seem like a simple fundraising challenge. But it points to a reality faced by too many families across the UK, including child poverty which shapes children’s health, education, confidence and sense of security. For some, the basics many of us rely on daily, including a safe place sleep, are not guaranteed.

Why Boycott Your Bed Matters

We live in a world where many challenges can feel distant or abstract. Statistics about poverty, housing insecurity, and financial hardship may be reported on, but it’s not always easy to truly connect with the human stories behind them.

This is where Boycott Your Bed makes an impact. By giving up a night’s comfort, participants are reminded of how unsettling it is to be without the place of safety we usually take for granted. A corporate sleepout cannot replicate the realities faced by vulnerable children and families, but it can build empathy, start important conversations and, crucially, raise funds for services that make a tangible difference.

Over nearly three decades, Boycott Your Bed has raised more than £14 million to help children access essentials many of us take for granted, including hot meals, warm clothes and a safe place to sleep.

The Power of Collective Action

Part of the strength of Boycott Your Bed is that it turns fundraising into a shared experience.

Colleagues come together outside their usual day-to-day roles, united by a common purpose. Teams that normally collaborate through emails, meetings and project plans find themselves sharing stories, facing a challenge together and supporting one another in a very different setting. Those shared experiences can strengthen relationships and create lasting memories, while keeping the focus firmly on the children and families the event exists to support.

Events like Boycott Your Bed bring people together, but the impact extends far beyond the individuals taking part. Every sponsorship, donation and conversation generated by the event helps to shine a spotlight on an issue that deserves greater attention.

Turning Awareness Into Action

Fundraising is most impactful when it moves beyond good intentions and creates practical support for people who need it.

Whether through fundraising, volunteering, or advocacy, supporting causes that align with organisational values demonstrates a commitment to positive social impact. It shows employees, customers and wider stakeholders that purpose is not simply part of a mission statement, but embedded in company culture.

Boycott Your Bed provides a practical way to do exactly that. Participants are not only raising money – they are helping to raise awareness of the challenges faced by vulnerable children and families across the UK.

A Night That Can Change Lives

One night without a bed is temporary inconvenience.

For the children and young people who experience this daily, the funds raised can contribute to something far more significant: access to support services, stability during difficult times, and opportunities for a brighter future.

As this year’s event approaches, we encourage both businesses and individuals to get involved. Whether you’re taking part in the sleepout, sponsoring a participant, or helping spread the word, every contribution matters.

While sleeping outside for one night may be challenging, it is a challenge undertaken with purpose: helping to ensure every child has the safety, support and opportunity they deserve.
