As 2024 is now well underway, the C8 team has been reflecting on our highlights and achievements over the past year. A compilation if you like, of memories that certainly put a spotlight on the varied and inspiring work we do.
Destiny Gillbee – PR Director
This year has been one of many changes, both professionally and personally, as I relocated to the UK. Although I experienced many firsts and exciting moments, one of my biggest highlights in October was joining C8 Consulting, a disruptive-tech PR agency, passionate about telling its client stories. From the get-go, I have enjoyed working with a dynamic team of enthusiastic and driven individuals that are committed to achieving great results. Our clients have innovative stories to tell, and in the short time I’ve been with the agency, by working openly and collaboratively, we have generated a host of strategic opportunities plus secured a range of coverage across top tier publications. Fundamentally it’s about kick-starting conversations with our clients’ target audiences and I’m excited about the opportunities we’ll deliver in the year ahead.
Ameesha Patel – PR Manager
Throughout my four years at C8, I can definitely say 2023 has been the best yet. Most notably, I was able to achieve accredited CPD status through C8’s PRCA membership allowing me to build my skills and deepen my knowledge within the sector. I’m also the first person at C8 to do so and I’m excited to help my colleagues through the process too! I think it’s so important to continuously review how we work, seeking out best practices and acquiring new tools, techniques and theories to provide the best service possible to our clients. I also had the pleasure of being invited to the PRCA Awards in London. It was a fantastic evening celebrating the achievement of people within the industry, meeting new PR professionals, and getting dolled up too! Other notable mentions go to attending RSA Conference in San Fran in April and being promoted to account manager in July – a whirlwind and very memorable year all round.
Richard Murphy – Junior PR Executive
My main C8 highlight of 2023 was being involved with the launch of ThreatQuotient’s 2023 State of Cybersecurity Automation Adoption research report in November. This comprehensive research examines the expanding importance of cybersecurity automation, a change in how senior security professionals determine ROI, and how cybersecurity teams believe they can avoid burnout. An integral part of this was inviting journalists to the press launch event and ultimately securing some fantastic pieces of coverage in key titles such as TechHQ, Enterprise Times and Digitalisation World, to name a few. From an internal comms and culture perspective, we had a fantastic final quarterly business review in London in December, which allowed us to reflect on the highs of 2023, get an overview of our strategic focus for 2024, as well as enjoying some great social time together which involved some delicious food, fun activities, and a few Christmas drinks.
Jim Pople – Senior PR Director
My personal highlight for 2023 was a particularly busy time in late April, starting with a Panasonic event at its Cardiff facility that I helped to organise, in which we launched the TOUGHBOOK 40 rugged notebook, dubbed the ‘TOUGHBOOK 40 Experience’, with approximately 15 UK and European media in attendance.
Three days later, this event was swiftly followed by a five-day trip to San Francisco for the RSA 2023 Conference, arguably the biggest date in the international cybersecurity calendar. Notwithstanding the joy of being in one of the United States’ most diverse and exciting cities, RSA was a fantastic opportunity to mingle with clients, journalists, partner agencies, analysts, influencers, and contacts, all in one place. I never stopped learning on that whirlwind trip, especially the toll that jetlag has on the human body.
These were just two of my highlights from a very busy, but successful year. Here’s to a successful 2024!
James Sutton – Junior PR Executive
One of my main personal and professional highlights was starting at C8 at the end of October. Since joining, I have sharpened my skills and learned so much about the world of disruptive-tech, as well as public relations. More specifically, I really enjoyed creating content off the back of the Noname Security API Disconnect report, despite the world of APIs being somewhat of a mystery beforehand. However, as I got to grips with the research, I found the topic very interesting and the results compelling. I have also enjoyed getting to know the ins and outs of our clients in more detail, especially learning about what they do and what makes them unique. Our clients span numerous sectors and are varied, so getting familiar with them has been very interesting.
Natalie Young – Senior PR Executive
If I was to pinpoint one campaign, I absolutely loved working on the ‘channel press tour’, where we secured and hosted five channel media briefings for our client, Egress, and one of its partners. It was so rewarding to work on and be a part of the campaign from the early stages of ideation to delivery, and seeing the results come through at the end was very satisfying, including coverage in TechTarget’s SearchITChannel, SDC Channel Insights, News in the Channel, Channel Futures and IT Europa.
I also enjoyed the time I spent out of the office at industry events, particularly at the PRCA Summer Conference. This was definitely a highlight due to the brilliant talks from other PR professionals on what they are seeing in our industry, outside of traditional client work. The talks and topics ranged from creative courage to how PR pros are harnessing the power of AI. I highly recommend PRCA events.
Aga Kasprzyk – PR Manager
2023 was an interesting year for me with so many great experiences to choose from. I was lucky to attend a variety of different B2B events, such as Infosecurity Europe and BCI World Hybrid, which were fantastic experiences. However, the main highlight I enjoyed in 2023 was securing and attending media briefings for my clients, all of which I had a pivotal role in organising. Moreover, meeting clients face to face is always a pleasure and it also allowed me to build on my relationships with journalists and analysts.
To broaden my knowledge, I also attended the research launch of the Noname Security API Disconnect report, the second API security research report which we have worked on with them. C8 organised a roundtable with tech media such as top-tier trade publications, Computer Weekly and Diginomica, financial focused publication, IBS Intelligence, to name a few, to discuss the findings in detail alongside the general launch of the research.
More recently, I represented C8 at the Panasonic TOUGHBOOK workshop event in London, where the Panasonic team presented the solution that they can offer to the public sector.
Last but not least, I can’t miss the fantastic PRCA Awards in November, which I attended with my colleague, Ameesha Patel. A really fun-filled evening of networking with industry professionals. I can only hope for more of the same in 2024!
