Boycott Your Bed

July 9, 2020By Paula ElliottInsights

This year the team here at C8 is supporting a very worthwhile cause, ‘Boycott Your Bed’. For those less familiar with it, this is an evolution of Action for Children’s Thames Valley Byte Night, the IT industry sleepout to help prevent youth homelessness. Over the years, on a chilly night in October, various members of the C8 team have slept out for one night under the stars, with just a sleeping bag, to raise funds for this very worthwhile cause.

However, owing to the COVID-19 situation it was felt that a different approach was needed this year. So on Friday 21 August 2020, we are going to ditch our duvets, banish our blankets, pack away our pillows and we are joining forces with our family, friends and colleagues to raise money and spend the night in the most unusual places in our homes and/or gardens.

Some of us might rough it in the garden, some might pitch a tent under the dining room table, sleep on the floor in our lounge or bunk down for the night in the bathroom. The great aspect of this event is that it is incredibly inclusive. We will be joining others around the country and throughout the night there’ll be virtual entertainment and fundraising fun too, bringing people and homes together right across the UK.

Who will this affect?

But wherever we decide to sleep, we will be helping vulnerable children and families who are struggling. Who are worried about their future. And who don’t know when they will feel safe and happy again.

Before coronavirus hit the UK, more than 4.2 million children were locked in poverty. Now, vulnerable children and their families have reached breaking point.

Action for Children runs 476 services across the UK, helping more than 387,000 children, young people and families every year. And like you, we want every child to have a safe and happy childhood.

So, wherever the C8 team decides to sleep, we’ll be raising vital funds to help vulnerable children and families who are struggling and we would really appreciate any support that you can give us. Likewise, we would love it if you would join us and Boycott Your Bed for one night on Friday 21st August.
