Maybe it’s something in the air, but here at C8 Consulting, we’ve been feeling the love lately.
PR is often ranked among the most stressful professions. Ask any PR professional ten minutes into a Monday or deep in the trenches of a press release, and they’ll likely agree. But a recent viral LinkedIn post from Jasper Hamill highlighting PR-folk’s challenges, and the call to action to be kinder to them, sparked some laughter and lively discussion in our office. It got us thinking: despite the challenges, what makes us love this career?
Here, our team shares what keeps us passionate about PR:
First and foremost, PR allowed me to be a storyteller. Every brand, every organisation and every individual has a unique narrative waiting to be told and through PR we have the power to get our client’s voice heard. – Paula Elliott, MD.
I love many things about PR, but if I had to choose, it would be the variety of clients we work with at C8 and the stories they have to tell. I also get a buzz out of working with incredibly creative and stimulating colleagues, both agency and client-side. – Jim Pople, Senior PR Director.
I love the fast pace of agency life, working with different clients and learning about their offerings and industries. I love developing strategic campaigns and pulling plans together but nothing beats the thrill of chasing deadlines and the reward that comes from getting coverage. Seeing my client’s name in the news is always exciting and makes my heart flutter. I wouldn’t be able to achieve any of this without my team. At C8, we have an amazing team of PR professionals who are just as passionate about telling our clients stories. – Destiny Gillbee, PR Director.
I love working in PR as it gives me an opportunity to build great relationships with people: clients, media, partners. – Aga Kasprzyk, Account Manager.
I enjoy working in PR because no two days are the same. The PR industry is fast-paced, and competitive and often lands seen as a glamorous field characterised by glitzy events but the reality is there is so much more to PR than meets the eye. If you like the variety of experiences, public relations is an industry where there are unique opportunities to make your client’s mark and depending on where you work there is room for creativity, relationship building and learning and growth (both professional and personal). You never know what you’re going to get when you walk through the door in the morning. In one day, I might work with a cloud and cybersecurity provider, a wireless connected lawnmower, to a projector hardware business. How’s that for variety? – Ameesha Patel, Account Manager.
One of the main things I love about PR is the feeling of accomplishment that comes from acting as a bridge between our clients and the media. I always get a lot of joy from facilitating that mutually beneficial relationship where the client is happy with the coverage, and the journalist is happy with their content. – James Sutton, Account Executive.
I love the variety of work especially in content creation, from designing a marketing carousel to compiling articles and hosting briefings, it’s an exciting industry to work in as a PR executive. – Emma Banbury, Junior Account Executive.
I love how no two days are ever the same, the rush of getting great coverage and snooping stories in the morning. I love how aware and informed it makes you of everything from politics to people to business, and all our clients have such interesting expertise – I feel like I’m always learning! Mostly, however, I love the people I get to interact with on a daily: from the team to clients to journalists. – Alice Bathie, Account Executive.
While the challenges of the PR profession are undeniable, the passion and enthusiasm that our team shares for telling our client’s stories and working with disruptive tech companies shines through in all that we do. If you would like to inject some love into your own media campaign, and work with a team that loves what they do, please get in touch.
